ABOUT KEVIN BURTON  ·  The hand at the helm behind the Temporal Awareness Patent Family.
Kevin Burton
The Inventor

I'm Kevin Burton.

Master Electrician · Independent Inventor

The work

Hands-on, by trade. Inventor, by inclination.

I'm a Master Electrician with forty-eight years across all of my licensed and certified fields, and a Professor of Electrical Studies at a major Canadian college. The Burton-Poynting Theory work and the Temporal Awareness Patent Family did not come out of a research lab. They came out of seeing what the textbooks couldn't explain and refusing to stop asking until I had answers I could verify on the bench.

Everything you see on this site, including the four patent applications behind the auction, is work I've done with my own hands — drafting the claims, building the simulators, wiring the prototypes, sitting with the inconsistencies until the framework explained them. ETH Immutable™ is the umbrella over all of it.

The honest answer to “how?”

Thirty-four years programming ordering logic.

A fair question for any serious bidder reading this page: “He's a Master Electrician, not a computer scientist or an electrical engineer. How did he come to invent a Temporal Awareness AI patent family?”

Here is the honest answer. For thirty-four of those forty-eight years I have been working in machine automation and programming — the industrial disciplines behind factory automation, machine control, sequenced operation, fault response, and timing-critical industrial processes. Ladder logic. State machines. Conditional branches. Timed releases. Sequenced multi-party handshakes. Ordering logic. The work my Temporal Awareness Patent Family describes — events accumulating pressure across time, deterministic state machines that fire on threshold crossings, multi-party gating cascades, escalation in cadence, integrity-tagged inbound message handling — is the same family of reasoning I have been applying on the shop floor for three decades.

In 2024 I coined and registered the term PLGC (Programmable Logic Gate Controller) as a category name, filed it at CIPO under the broader ETH Immutable™ portfolio, and published an instructional video showing it in action. The PLGC sits inside the retained portfolio below; it is part of the same continuous arc of work.

I have also produced video curriculum for the 1st-year Canadian electrical apprenticeship program — Communication and Documentation, featuring AI's development. That video sits in the public record of Canadian trades education. And in July 2025, Electrical Business Magazine — Canada's leading trade publication for the electrical industry — ran an editorial feature on my Power-Factor-Correction methodology, with a standing invitation from the editor-publisher to author an original article. Three pieces of public-record evidence, all produced before the Temporal Awareness filings, all touching the same architectural ground the patents now formalize.

The Temporal Awareness Patent Family is not a leap from electrician to AI. It is what happens when someone with thirty-four years of fluency in deterministic ordering logic looks at the failure modes of stateless Large Language Models and says: “I know exactly what is missing here. I have been writing this for thirty-four years.” The framework arrived in the language I already spoke.

I'm not raising the trades-background point to defend the work. The patents stand on their own technical merit, verifiable by any examiner. I'm raising it because the question is honest and deserves an honest answer.

Origin story

Why this site is called Living Laboratories.

January 2025 I was producing an instructional video on PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programming. The scenario in the video was a small fictional company that I had been hired by — to program a press operation. The company's name was Living Laboratories, with a head office at livinglaboratories.org, and the company was run by bots.

I bought the domain to secure rights for the reference in the video — so no one could later say "hey, you'll have to stop using that name, that's ours." A standard defensive purchase for a creator publishing on a public platform.

Strange thing is: the video went live in early 2025, before OpenClaw existed, before the TimeBlind academic study was published, and before frontier-AI vendors had publicly recognized the temporal-blindness failure mode at all. I was already running a fictional company on autonomous bots, in an instructional video, for trades-students. The architecture I would later formalize, file at CIPO, and bring to this auction was already in my hands as a teaching demonstration — months before the field caught up.

I don't claim that as foresight. I claim it as the record. The domain was bought defensively. The video is still up. The patent family is what came next.

🟡 Retained — Burton-Poynting Theory Family

Independent electromagnetic-physics work. Not part of the auction. Stays with Kevin.

🟡 Retained — Device & Method Patents

Inventor's broader portfolio. Not part of the auction.

🟡 Retained — Literary & Copyright Registrations

Theoretical and architectural disclosures. Not part of the auction.
A note to bidders

The auction is a funding event, not an exit.

I'm not selling because I'm leaving the work. The Temporal Awareness Patent Family is at a point where it deserves a buyer who can deploy it at the scale it was designed for, and the auction is how I find that buyer. The retained portfolio above is what I'll continue to develop — the Burton-Poynting Theory, the bench instrumentation, the next-generation substrate work — under the ETH Immutable™ umbrella, from the same workbench, in Ontario.

“Although I think this is really very cool and all, it's NOT what I want to apply my energies to. My passion is in developing innovative electrical devices. Though I must say that onboarding my Temporally Aware AI Agentic System onto a Raspberry Pi and having it write, run, and operate a fully functioning PLC-controlled automated system — and even write the report on it — well, that does tug my attention away from other exciting works I have in play.” — Kevin Burton
